SC Paderborn of Germany defender, Jamilu Collins has missed out on a likely move to Newcastle United of England, as British work permit issues have knocked him out of reckoning in a proposed summer transfer to The Magpies, megasportsarena.com gathered.
The story out of Queensland reveals that Newcastle were keen on reviving their erstwhile long-standing Nigerian tradition by making a move for Collins this summer, with the Super Eagles’ left-back also expressing a strong desire of playing in the English Premier League, but they have found out that he does not meet up with Britain’s ratio on international matches.
It means an end to high hopes held by Collins to follow the footsteps of another Nigerian left-back, Celestine Babayaro, as well as three strikers, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins and the Ameobi brothers, Shola and Sammy at Saint James’ Park, where speculation is also rising about a likely move for former Eagles’ striker, Odion Jude Ighalo from their EPL rivals, Manchester United.
A report by German publication, Kicker, however, disclosed that difficulties in getting a work permit for Collins has put on hold Newcastle’s move for the dark-skinned former Flying Eagles’ defender, who has impressed this season with Paderborn, though the team were bottom of the German Bundesliga before the campaign was halted by coronavirus.
Interestingly, aside the interest from Newcastle in Collins, an additional report by Transfermarkt stated that he is also wanted by lower division side, Fulham, but non-EU requirements weighed against him and he will not be able to ply his trade in England just yet.
