Manchester City of England youth team player, Tai Sodje took his remarkable goals scoring form a step further when he hit home for the fifth consecutive match and helped his side to victory in the English U-18 Premier League, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Ayo Obileye also continued his surge to the top with Queen of The South FC in Scotland’s lower division, Sodje made his mark once again on an evening The Citizens’ kiddies’ squad got a commanding 5-1 victory over Leeds United.
The nephew of former Super Eagles’ defenders, Efe and Sam Sodje, who has drawn comparisons with Arsenal of England skipper, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is on his best scoring streak in the league, having earlier equaled his best scoring streak and is still counting.
He equaled his previous record during City’s 3-3 draw with Derby County on March 16 and his effort this past Saturday means he has now found the net in five consecutive matches, starting with a brace versus Wolverhampton Wanderers, before netting against Newcastle United, Stoke City, Derby County and now Leeds.
Sodje gave the Citizens the lead in the 33rd minute when he converted a penalty and took his tally for the season to 19 goals from 18 appearances, while also continuing as top scorer in the northern and southern sections of the league.
City are second on the log with 43 points, two behind table-toppers Manchester United, with six matches to end the campaign, in which the 17-year-old Sodje, who had never played in the U18 Premier League prior to this season, keeps wowing fans and analysts alike.
In Scotland, Obileye, who trained with Nigeria’s under-23 squad, Olympic Eagles before Rio 2016 Games, again showed that he is a defender with a striker’s instincts, as he already has nine goals from 21 appearances this season in the Scottish Championship.
The former Chelsea of England youth team defender scored his ninth goal of the season on an evening Queen of The South were beaten 2-1 by Greenock Morton on Saturday and he maintained his position in the race for the top scorer’s award.
Only Liam Boyce of Hearts, a Northern Ireland international with 11 goals, has scored more than Obileye, who took his haul to nine when he blasted a shot from 25 yards past the goalkeeper in the 45th minute; taking his career total to 29.
He hit 11 goals in 53 games for Eastleigh FC, four for Maidenhead United as well as three each for Dagenham & Redbridge and Ebbsfleet United, with the 26-year-old having also scored three times with his head before Saturday’s clash with Greenock Morton, plus three penalty kicks as well as a couple with his left and right feet.
