Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has declared that Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Benin Republic is the opportunity he and his colleagues in Nigeria’s national team have to redeem their image, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of memories of how they gave up a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 with lowly Sierra Leone in their third game of the series at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the former Racing Genk of Belgium ace stressed that it is now ‘redemption time’ for the Super Eagles.
The versatile midfielder, who continues churning out sterling performances in the English Premier League, added that two draws the Eagles played against Sierra Leone last November serve as a reminder that that they cannot afford to be complacent against Benin Republic.
Recalling how he personally felt bad after the games against Sierra Leone, because he was still recovering from injury back then, Ndidi admitted he hopes to start against The Squirrels this Saturday, in what would be his first appearance for the national team since going the distance versus Lesotho on matchday two.
Ndidi told Channels Television: “From the previous games, it wasn’t our best of games so it’s something that we have learnt so much of it so we know what we have to do in this game, so I think it is one of those games that we have to actually give our everything.
“Because of the expectation after not doing so well in the last games, it’s this kind of game that we have to redeem our image. We are really looking forward to the game and we will try and do our best and see what comes out of it.”
