The Nigerian national team, Super Eagles will leave for Benin Republic in the early hours of France, as they head out for their penultimate match in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with initial reports that the team would leave their current camp at Eko Hotel in Victoria Ilsand, Lagos on Thursday, the three-time African champions are now set to move 24 hours later.
That would also mean them arriving at the Beninoise capital just a day before they battle The Squirrels in their last but one fixture towards the next AFCON in Cameroon, but they will still have to travel again the following to the mach venue in Porto Novo.
Details of the Eagles’ travel plan as revealed by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed that the squad will depart Lagos for Cotonou in the early hours of Friday, but Saturday’s match will hold at Charles de Gaulle Stadium in Porto-Novo at 5pm.
Before heading out to the West Coast, the Eagles, who currently lead the qualifying Group L with eight points and Benin are a point behind, will henceforth train behind closed doors, as officials locked out fans and some media from Wednesday morning’s session.
Fans and journalists were allowed to watch the team’s first training at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Tuesday evening, but an official stressed the following day that the public and media will no longer be allowed in, because the coach, Gernot Rohr is now putting finishing touches to his tactics for Saturday’s penultimate qualifier.
