Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu is stuck in Lagos because of the continued closure of Nigeria’s airports in order to prevent further spread of coronavirus across the country, especially by people travelling in from overseas, megasportsarena.com reports.
Onuachu travelled into the country in the company of fellow-Belgium-based attacker, Imoh Ezekiel and Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen aboard a chartered flight provided by the latter’s French Ligue 1 club, in order for him to meet up with his father’s burial,
However, while Onuachu’s teammates are back in training for pre-season the former FC Ebedei of Shagamu towering attacker is stuck in Lagos, after a special chartered flight that was meant to tae him and some other players from a couple of Belgian clubs faced several hitches.
A report by Het Nieuwsblad revealed that a specially arranged chartered flight scheduled to take Onuachu back to Belgium was billed to fly out of Abidjan, Ivory Coast and would have also been used by some counterparts from Club Brugge and KAA Gent to return to their base as well, but it could not move because the airport has been closed down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Efforts by Onuachu to get an alternative in Nigeria also failed to materialize, as the earmarked reopening of all airports for international flights last Sunday was shifted till further notice, thereby leaving the lad holed up and praying hard that he will not run foul of his club’s rules.
