Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho was at his witty best on Wednesday morning, as he cracked jokes about himself few hours after his late arrival in the Super Eagles’ camp, megasportsarena.com reports.
The former Columbus Crew of America and Manchester City of England youngster was the last of the invited players to report for duty, as he faced some flight hitches that delayed his departure from England, but he was comical about the development on his eventual arrival.
The 24-year-old striker, who has enjoyed a fine run with his club lately, scoring nine goals in as many matches thus far, will aim to replicate his sudden burst of top form, which continued last weekend, when he scored twice to help Leicester beat Manchester United 3-1 in the English FA Cup and set up a semi-final date against Southampton on April 17.
In heralding the attacker’s arrival, the Eagles’ media unit noted that Iheanacho has been in devastating scoring form for Leicester of recent, notching seven goals in his last four matches in the English Premier League and FA Cup.
Iheanacho quickly took to social media after settling down into the Eagles’ camp at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, but his post was rather perplexing as he appeared behind a face mask and joked: “This is not me.”
Before his arrival in Lagos, the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player had been hailed by former Eagles’ captain and coach, Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh, who hailed the attacker alongside his compatriot at Leicester, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi.
‘The Passmaster’ gave plaudits all the way, after Iheanacho produced a man of the match display, with two goals and an assist that helped The Foxes beat The Red Devils at King Power Stadium and reach their first FA Cup semi-finals in 39 years.
Ndidi was also at his commanding best as he made light work of United’s midfield trio of Fred, Pogba, and Donny van da Beek, as he picked up eight points out of ten in helping Leicester reach their first Wembley appearance since winning the EPL back in 2016.
Oliseh stated that both players have now shown that their abilities can lead Nigeria back to the pinnacle of football and he added: “Bravo; Kelechi and Ndidi are maybe on the way to bringing Nigeria back to top club football and this makes me proud.”
