The president of Nigerian Wrestling Federation (NWF), Honorable Daniel Igali has expressed confidence that the Olympic Games billed for Tokyo, Japan will certainly hold later on, but admitted it might not come up any longer from July to August this year, megasportsarena.com reports.
With coronavirus ravaging the whole wide world, pressure has been on Japan to call off the Games, but the country is still holding out for the resolution of coronavirus, so they can still go ahead with their hosting rights.
Although Canada and Australia have both declared that they will not send delegations to the Games, if Japan insists on hosting it this year, Igali interjected that the world should be able to turn up in The Land of The Rising Sun at a later date.
The former wrestler, who won an Olympics gold medal while competing for Canada, before returning to Nigeria to start as a coach and later politician, added that he is staying optimistic that the Games will still go ahead in Tokyo, but admitted he cannot put a finger on any particular date.
Igali declared: “I believe the Olympics will still hold, but it may not be in July to August any longer. It will definitely hold, maybe at a later date, so we have to be ready. We will continue our preparations and make sure we are ready when it eventually holds.”
