New arrival of Fulham of England, Ola Aina could be in for a bargain contract worth €15m should he comport himself well during his loan spell at Craven Cottage, as The Cottagers have an agreement with his parent club, AS Torino of Italy to buy him for that amount at the end of this season in the English Premier League, megasportsarena.com reports.
Aina, who scored a goal and provided five assists in 62 Serie A appearances for Torino, is already expected to go straight into the starting 11 at Fulham, who are still struggling to replace Ryan Fredericks in their back-four, after he moved to West Ham United in the summer of 2019, while their current right-back, Cyrus Christie is considered ‘not tested enough’ to hold his own against top opposition in the EPL.
Fulham’s coach, Scott Parker is already speaking in glowing terms about Aina and stated categorically before Saturday’s season-opener against Arsenal at Craven Cottage that he will be relying heavily on the Chelsea product, who was excluded from Torino’s training camp in Biella when it was confirmed he would leave The Maroons just a season after signed a full deal.
It means Aina will have more than just laurels to play for, as the former Chelsea and Hull City full back, who turns 24 next month, has the possibility of hooking €15m once he impresses in the campaign that began with defeat in their London derby against Arsenal on Saturday.
Although his team started badly, on an evening he watched proceedings from the stands, the versatile player will be hoping to get the payday dangling before him at the end of the season, as Fulham are expected to pay €2.5m for his loan deal, with an option to buy him outright for a further €12.5m, while Torino negotiated a 10 per cent cut of any future transfer fee.
Though Aina is now a regular for Nigeria, he will count as a British homegrown player at Fulham, considering that he is a former England youth international, and Parker admitted that The Cottagers will gain a lot from having Aina in their squad; and the coach told Football.London: “We’re looking to strengthen certain suspicions. Hopefully we can get a couple over the line.”
London-born Aina has not featured in the Premier League since playing the last fifteen minutes of Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Fulham on May 15, 2017; but Fulham’s director of football operations, Tony Khan said he is pleased with the club’s most recent transfer business and believes that the versatile fullback will add quality to The Cottagers’ team because he is a talented player.
The technical buff went on to hint that Fulham would trigger the 12.5m euro purchase option in Aina’s deal, once the defender excels back in the English Premier League and if they manage to have a good season, which they ironically started win a 3-0 loss at home against Arsenal on Saturday.
Khan stated: “I’m pleased to announce the arrival of Ola Aina to Fulham on loan from Torino. Ola is an exciting young player who can further strengthen our squad this season in the Premier League.
“In our loan agreement, we’ve secured an option for a permanent transfer for Ola to potentially remain at Fulham if this season proves to be a good fit for us, which is a great situation for the Club given our belief in Ola’s talent and in his potential. Come on Fulham!”
