The Super Eagles of Nigeria are staying positive for a good result in Benin Republic, despite facing some issues on their boat trip to the West African country’s commercial capital, Cotonou, and then having to train in darkness, megasportsaena.com reports.
The squad cut a pathetic sight training in darkness and without lights at the venue for Saturday’s match against The Squirrels, but coach of the side, Gernot Rohr insists they are all in vibrant mood heading into the fixture.
Saturday’s game will be the penultimate match in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and the Eagles had a feel of Stade Charles de Gaulle, venue of their fifth game in the qualifying series, but they had to work out under partial darkness as there was no light in the stadium.
However, while revealing that all 24 players named on the roster are available for selection against The Squirrels, adding that he was happy they came through the final session unscathed, Rohr enthused that his side will get a good result on Saturday.
“It was a very special journey, it was nice but it was not easy, we had some little problems but we arrived well and even if it was late we could do a training session. There was no light but we handled it, we have the full moon.
“I feel good harmony in my team. Even if there are some problems we are all the time having a positive mind. It’s a big challenge to win here tomorrow because they didn’t lose a match since eight years, so we want to do that.
“We know that a draw we have the ticket for the AFCON. This is our first target and then later we speak about the second match. Everybody is fit, no injuries and I hope we can do what we want to do.”
