Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Cyriel Dessers has disclosed that he is eagerly looking forward to top-flight action against OH Leuven on Monday, as he aims to regain his goals scoring form, megasportsarena.com reports.
The lad with a Nigerian mother and Belgian father, but opted for his international future with the Super Eagles, has not found the same range that saw he finish as joint-top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.
While admitting that he has not been able to settle as quickly as he would have loved to, the mulatto attacker declared that he is determined to make his mark in the remaining matches of the season, even as he acknowledged that things will be tighter than ever.
Heading into Monday’s game away to Leuven, where he started out as a professional before moving to Holland, Dessers stressed that he is looking forward to the game, while noting that all the remaining matches for his team this season in the league will be taken like Cup finals.
His team are currently within the league’s playoff bracket and they will also play the Belgium Cup final against Standard Liege but, while conceding that things are bound to get really tough in the fading days of the season, Dessers enthused that Genk would come out on top from various challenges lying ahead of them.
Dessers told HLN: “I said it in the dressing room last week: ‘it may sound strange after 31 games, but the season is actually only starting now.’ We’ll play 10 more matches, in which it all has to happen.
“Both in the cup final and in the competition, in which – even if it is a cliché – only finals await. It is to our credit that we are in complete control of our destiny. But we will have to work hard to achieve our goals. I’m really looking forward to this match; there are still some old acquaintances from the medical staff around.
“I am happy that OHL is playing in first division again. They belong there and they are going to stay there now. It is a pity that we still play with closed doors because the stands were always filled. I could already sniff that atmosphere from my room, wonderful memories.”
