SC Heerenveen of Holland rising sensation, Chidera Ejuke has gained summer transfer attention from one of the Dutch Eredivisie’s top teams, Feyenoord Rotterdam, even as interest continues swirling in his direction heading into the summer, megasportsarena.com reports.
After making the squad collations of several pundits and sports publications for the league’s team of the season, Ejuke is bound to receive a flood of suitors, and the race is now being led by Feyenoord, the legendary club that once paid the wages of former Nigerian international striker, Mike Obiku.
Details of the report by allnigeriasoccer.com disclosed that the Dutch giants Feyenoord, who finished third in the cancelled season, are lining up a move for the highly-rated Nigerian winger, as they have already started planning for the summer transfer window.
Their searchlight is now said to be focused fully on Ejuke, who was also voted the league’s top dribbler, with a view to hooking his signature before the start of next season, for which they have already held preliminary talks with his agents, to find out Heerenveen’s asking price.
This comes at a point additional reports indicated that Ejuke has joined other players in the Dutch league to take a pay cut and save their clubs at least 35 million Euros after the season was called off on account of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Dutch FA, KNVB, disclosed that the clubs will lose as much as 300 million Euros after the league season was called off prematurely because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, thereby causing the players and officials to accept cuts of between 2.5% and 20% on their respective salaries.
The football federation, KNVB have asked for a lifeline from the Dutch government, which in turn demanded that the players, coaches and officials first give up on their benefits before they could assist, considering that most clubs will lose more money whenever the new season begins because matches will be played behind closed doors.
Heerenveen are certainly among the financially embattled clubs, and it is now left to be seen if they will use Ejuke as a source of pooling in some finds this summer, even as they await a bid by the former European champions, who face the challenge of a tight bid war for the youngster.
This is considering that the Heerenveen top scorer has also received offers from clubs in China and United Arab Emirates, while a couple of teams in the French Ligue 1 are also said to be in the hunt for his signature, as top teams across Europe and Asia are keeping tabs on his progress.
The report posited: “Ejuke’s ability to play as a winger, attacking midfielder and striker would appeal to his numerous suitors. The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in the Eredivisie and TOTO KNVB beker, scoring 10 goals in total in both competitions while producing six assists in 29 appearances. The former Valerenga Fotball man has roughly three years to run on his contract with Heerenveen.”
