Manchester City of England defender, Tosin Adarabioyo is back at Etihad Stadium after a loan spell at lower division side, Blackburn Rovers, but he could be on his way once again this summer, as he is said to be attracting transfer attention from The Citizens’ English Premier League rivals, Everton.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that it is bound to be major step forward in the Nigerian-born stopper’s career, after excelling at Ewood Park, where he helped Blackburn retain their status in the English Championship this season, and he could eventually get the golden chance of starring in the top-flight EPL during the next campaign.
This is sequel to a report by The Mirror that revealed the interest coming his way from Goodison Park, where Everton are said to have lined Adarabioyo as a cheaper option in their transfer plans for this summer, especially if they fail to hook their first two targets for the window .
It was gathered further that Super Eagles’ playmaker, Alex Iwobi’s coach at Everton, Carlo Ancelotti wants to buy Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma or Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa, but Adarabioyo is The Toffees’ gaffer’s third option and the Italian tactician believes the lad could offer equally solid value in central defence, after impressing in the Championship for the last two seasons first at West Bromwich Albion and then Blackburn.
This comes few weeks after news emerged that Man City’s coach, Pep Guardiola had charged the youngster to push for a first-team place next season, but the 22-year-old lad was first expected to agree terms of a new contract at Etihad Stadium and put pen to paper.
A report by 90 Minutes added: “The Premier League runners-up have been impressed with how the 22-year-old has performed while on loan at Blackburn Rovers this season where he made 35 appearances and scored three goals.
“He similarly caught the eye during a stint at West Bromwich Albion during the 2018/2019 campaign. The former England Under-19 international was a mainstay in a Baggies team that were narrowly defeated by Aston Villa on penalties in the Championship playoff semi final.
“Adarabioyo has just 12-months left on his current deal and The Citizens are keen for him to sign a new long term contract. However, if he does pen terms it is unlikely that he will spend next season out on loan.
“The club believe that he could become a useful squad member for Pep Guardiola, in an area of the team that lacks depth. City have struggled defensively this season with an injury to Aymeric Laporte leaving them desperately short of options at the back.
“John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have been criticised for their performances with 35-year-old Fernandinho shoehorned into the position in their stead (but) Adarabioyo is considering his options, as he knows if he does not sign then he can leave for nothing next summer.
“City are aware of this and they are keen not to lose a player who is Manchester-born and has spent his entire career with the club. If he does pen new terms, Adarabioyo is likely to be joined in Guardiola’s squad by several new arrivals. Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Valencia prospect Ferran Torres are both targets while the club have also been linked with a long list of centre-backs.”
