Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham has earned the confidence of his coach, Frank Lampard to a higher level in the first half of the English Premier League season, as The Blues’ boss says he is sure the Nigerian-born lad will bang more goals during the run-in, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Abraham among the EPL’s top scorers so far this season, which is his first as a full-fledged professional at Chelsea, Lampard admits he is glad seeing the youngster make his marks, and believes there is still more to come from the England international.
After seeing Abraham notch in Chelsea’s winner at Arsenal on Sunday, which was the striker’s was his first strike against one of the EPL’s big six clubs, Lampard believes breaking that duck will push the young striker to new height, with an expected greater impact against tough teams.
Abraham’s link play and hard graft have proved as much of a feature as his goals in a stunning first half of the Premier League campaign, and Lampard believes it is his sheer hunger for goals that makes him so dangerous in the box at the very top level.
The 22-year-old kept his head as Chelsea battled from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s opener to deny Arsenal’s new coach, Mikel Arteta a dream home debut, and the Chelsea boss added that he is sure Abraham’s fearless finishing will bring him more goals against other ‘big six’ sides.
The youngster shrugged off missing two fine chances before slotting a breathless winner as Chelsea downed Arsenal 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, after Jorginho tapped in after Bernd Leno’s goalkeeping calamity and Abraham notched his 12th Premier League goal of the term, leaving Lampard paying tribute to his fast-rising hitman.
Lampard said: “Hopefully it will help him. His numbers are great and getting better. People will always look at ‘have you scored against the big six’, I get that from the outside. But I have no doubt that he will do, and that as he develops he’ll do that more and more. That’s the beauty of Tammy, he will never hide or shirk trying to get in there again.”
