Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham limped off on Monday with an ankle injury copped in action against Newcastle United, which left The Blues’ coach, Thomas Tuchel livid with rage, megasportsarena.com reports.
Abraham was forced off after just 20 minutes at Stamford Bridge, as the Nigerian-born England international appeared to injure his right ankle from a rough challenge by Jamaal Lascelles.
In the wake of The Blues’ last victory in the English Premier League, Tuchel hit out at Newcastle defender, Jamaal Lascelles for what the German tactician believes was a reckless tackle that left Abraham with an ankle injury.
Lascelles avoided any punishment from the match referee, Peter Bankes, despite pitch side cameras highlighting his scissor tackle that upended the Chelsea striker in the Newcastle area, and The Blues’ gaffer was left frustrated by the tackle that ended Abraham’s night.
While admitting joy over goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner, as Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners over The Magpies, to climb into the English Premier League’s top four for the first time since December, Tuchel revealed how he was barred from discussing Abraham’s exit with Bankes at half-time.
Tuchel disclosed: “My assistant tried to show him (Bankes) the tackle on the iPad and he told us he was not allowed to talk to us. It was the tackle, but we didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to watch. So okay, we didn’t realise that.
“We had the feeling it was a reckless tackle. He (Lascelles) played the ball, yes, but for me, it’s too much of a risk to an injury to the opponent. And because of that for me, it’s a foul. It’s reckless, but okay it was not like us to criticise, just to discuss with the officials.
“(For now,) there’s no update yet on Tammy, but we needed to take him off after a hard tackle. So, we are worried, but there’s no news of him.”
