Sports minister, Sunday Akinlabi Dare has served a strong hint that Gernot Rohr might remain as Super Eagles’ coach beyond the expiration of his current contract in June 2020, as the technocrat says the Franco-German gaffer is part of the ongoing football process in Nigeria, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with recent speculation that Rohr may not be available for a contract extension in the summer of 2020, Dare is of a view that the tactician should stay on much longer, as he said during a one-on-one meeting with the coach that he wishes him more luck on the job.
The minister added that he was thrilled seeing the Eagles win their first two matches of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, back-to-back against Benin Republic and Lesotho, both of which he also pointed out made all Nigerian football fans very happy as well.
He acknowledged that the job would be easier and smother for Rohr once the team keeps winning, which he says is the desire off all Nigerians, hence his charge to the tactician to keep working harder in order to ensure he gets better results as the days go by.
The former journalist, editor, telecommunications expert and information technology zealot submitted with a prediction that Nigerian football will see more glorious days ahead, in which he stated with optimism that Rohr will be part of the forthcoming success story, as he declared that it would be good to see them work together in taking the Eagles higher.
Dare submitted: “There’s an ongoing process that will make this country a better football nation; and you are part of the process. Nigeria is a football loving nation. We love our football and we also love our victories. I wish you good luck and I hope we can work together.
“Now that you have spent three years in Nigeria, you should know how to face the challenges from the fans. We are happy with the victory in Lesotho and the performance against Brazil in Singapore. We hope to get more of such results. We also want you to look closer at the league.”
