Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has received another round of heated reactions from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as the soccer governing body’s president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick says the Franco-German tactician is not being sincere with comments about what he is getting from The Glasshouse, which he insists is not owing the gaffer any outstanding salaries, megasportsarena.com reports.
In the wake of a recent warning by the NFF’s technical director, Bitrus Bewarang, that Rohr faces being held in breach of contract for taking financial issues about his contract to the public via a spate of media interviews, Pinnick has added his voice with a poser over why the coach does not go public anytime he is paid his entitlements by the same body he is now complaining about.
While also criticizing Rohr for publicly asking for his salary, Pinnick refuted repeated comments by the gaffer that he is being owed three months’ wages, but harped on the fact that the coach went overboard in speaking to the press about his agitations, while also pointing out that issues bordering on salaries between emplotyer and employee are meant to be confidential.
Pinnick stressed: ”We don’t owe you, you cannot come out to say that we are owning you salary. We pay you, an employee, and you must respect the employer because we pay you salary religiously. If they pay you, you don’t come out to say they pay you. There are some things you don’t say.”
However, a report by scorenigeria.com.ng added: “With just over six months left of his contract, it would seem Pinnick has picked on Gernot Rohr, the incumbent Eagles’ coach. While the reasons for the falling out remains unclear, it is believed Rohr got himself into Pinnick’s bad books by revealing to close friends how he was being owed by the Glass House.
“As expected, the former CAF First Vice President hasn’t hidden his true feelings and has given indications – albeit subtle – that a new contract offer to the German coach will be laced with stringent conditions.
“Rohr’s contract doesn’t run out until next summer and while he would have no choice than to leave if favourable terms are not offered, he knows Pinnick is hamstrung and can hardly sack him now and for two reasons: the backlash from Nigerians and the sum that would be required as severance package. Unlike the average Nigerian coach that would be sacked and still be owed for years, the NFF boss knows he wouldn’t get away with that with Rohr.”
