Racing Genk of Belgium attacker, Paul Ebere Onuachu could be on his way to Italy in a multi-million euro deal, considering the magnificent form he has displayed in recent months, and two football experts are of the strong view that the tall lad deserves a huge payday this summer.
With the towering former FC Midtjylland of Denmark hitman already top scorer in the Belgian top-flight league, with 26 goals to his name and 27 across all competitions, the transfer mill is abuzz with high possibility of a move to Italy this summer.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the first verdict in Onuachu’s favour is from a former striker of Club Brugge and Antwerp of Belgium striker, Dieter Van Tornhout, who tipped the giant striker to attract frenetic attention from some of the finest teams in the Italian Serie A.
Onuachu, who has helped Genk get close to hooking a place in the title playoffs and recently scored in back-to-back matches for the Super Eagles, has been linked with likely deals in the English Premier League, German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1, but Van Tornhout believes Italy would be a better option for the young forward.
Van Tornhout declared: “Maybe it is already being discussed in Italy, but I recommend Racing Genk striker Paul Onuachu. He’s very good. He’s a tall player of about two metres and a name to keep an eye on.”
Added to this is the verdict from former Derby County of England icon turned analyst, Branko Strupar, who posited that Onuachu is set to reap bountifully from his most successful season as a professional, and only his second term in Belgium may be his last in that country.
The 26-year-old product of Young Stars of Lagos and FC Ebedie of Shagamu, Ogun State has taken the Belgian First Division A by storm in just 29 appearances, with his latest effort powering Genk past RSC Anderlecht in the Belgian Cup semi-finals.
In all of Europe’s top-five leagues, only Bayern Munich of Germany’s Robert Lewandowski (with 32 goals) has scored more goals than Onuachu, who is ahead of Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo (23), Barcelona’s Lionel Messi (21), Romelu Lukaku (19) and Erling Haaland (19).
He has now gained additional superlatives from Strupar, who likened the lanky Nigerian to Czech Republic’s all-time top scorer, Jan Koller and submitted that the Eagles’ rave of the moment will not be in Belgium next season.
Onuachu’s impending exit was the main focus for Strupar, who told Het Laatste Nieuws: “I would like to see him live at work. He reminds me of Jan Koller, but with even better feet. I hear that he will not stay much longer.”
