Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen has been hit with a dilemma of choice in the summer transfer window, as Real Madrid of Spain and Manchester United are now neck-to-neck in the hunt for his signature, megasportsarena.com reports.
In what has become the biggest tussle between two big clubs in Europe, United and Real are now top of the race that initially had the English Premier League quartet of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur as well as Barcelona of Spain.
Details of a report by Le 10 Sport, however, reveal that Osimhen is now left with the tight tussle between Madrid and United, who are both said to be locked in the battle to sign the vastly-improved striker.
Although Osimhen’s fellow-Nigerian attacker, Odion Jude Ighalo, into whose shoes he stepped in the Super Eagles’ attack, is still at United, The Red Devils’ manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to get a contingency plan in place in the advent of not being able to tie the more experienced star down beyond his current loan deal, which expires in May.
As he looks towards next season, Solksjaer is said to be lining up a move for Osimhen as a long-term option at Old Trafford, but he will have to ward of equally strong interest from Madrid, who are in the market for a striker to replace ageing French icon, Karim Benzema.
An additional report by highly-respected Spanish sports daily, Marca, cited Osimhen along with five top targets for the Madrid-based squad, who are also keen on signing Norway’s rave of the moment, Erling Haaland as well as Kylian Mbpappe, Lautaro Martinez, Timo Werner and Neymar.
It is now left to be seen which of the two big clubs will grab Osimhen, who is under contract with Lille until June 2024, but has caught the eye of the watching soccer crazy followership in Europe with his haul of 18 goals across all competitions in only his first season in France.
