Super Eagles’ winger, Henry Onyekuru is heading into the summer with uncertainty about his next port of call, as he has been told in clear terms hat he ‘did not do enough’ to earn a full contract at Galatasaray of Turkey, megasportsarena.com reports.
Onyekuru had been hoping on a third spell with the Istanbul-based Turkish Super Lig club to revive his fortune, following two fruitless spells with AS Monaco of France, but he is now heading back to the French Ligue 1 club that loaned him to Gala at the start of this year.
The product of Aspire Football Academy, who had previously played for KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium, first joined Monaco after a loan spell at Galatasaray from Everton of England, but he headed back to Istanbul after failing to settle in Monte Carlo.
Sadly, his second term back in Monaco still did not go well and he headed back to Gala again, only to be floored by injury in his very first match, after a spell with malaria ruled him out of the season opener.
His many woes have now snowballed into a vote of no confidence from the technical crew at Galatasaray, and Onyekuru will return to AS Monaco at season’s end because he has failed to convince top shots of the Lig club that he deserves a full contract.
A report by Turkish media outlet, Sabah added: “Galatasaray will not trigger this buy-out clause and as such the forward will head back in June to parent club Monaco, where he has so far failed to crack it during his third loan spell.
“The Istanbul giants have an option to sign him for 4.3 million Euros thereafter, but the Turkish club say he has not done enough to earn a permanent deal and would rather put their cash on Gedson Fernandes and Halil Dervisoglu, who have impressed lately.
“(Instead of offering Onyekuru terms of a full contract), they have opted to renegotiate the 5 million Euros fee for Halil from English Championship club Brentford, while they are prepared to pay more as loan fee for Gedson.”
