Crystal Palace of England teenager, David Omilabu has recounted the dramatic chain of events and goals that led him back into The Eagles’ mainframe, few months after he was virtually sacked by the same club, megasportsarena.com reports.
With the 18-year-old lad ostensibly finding it hard to break into the London club’s first team, after signing a promising contract, the crew at Selhurst Park reckoned that he was surplus to requirements, only for him to score against them in a latter match.
The youngster has now shot his mind back to reflect on the chain of events that saw him shoot back into relevance with the English Premier League club and recounted how a hat-trick against them earned him a reprieve from the axe.
Omilabu, who is now a regular with Palace’s under-23 team, recalled as much when he told The Match programme: “I signed [for Palace] when I was eight-years-old and then I got released when playing for the Under-12s.
“A year later I went on trial at Fulham. We played Crystal Palace and I scored a hat-trick against them. Then my old coach said he wanted me back, so the following week I went back to Palace and got signed there.
“A lot of people don’t know this but at academies there is a lot of tactical work, more than you think. The opposition centre-back was weak in possession, so our coach told us to press him.
“When we are pressing, make sure you press him hard,’ and then we got the ball back and we scored from it.”
