Borussia Dortmund of Germany youth team defender, Nnamdi Collins has explained reasons behind his decision to finally put pen on a new contract with the German Bundesliga club, as he says his aim is to become a professional football at the club, megasportsarena.com reports.
Despite keen interest in his services from clubs outside Deutschland, especially in England and Spain, Collins opted to stay put at BVB, where he says his loyalty will continue to remain into the distant future, because he will forever be grateful to them for the breakthrough they gave his career.
This comes after he eventually ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract with the former European champions, despite pressure from Chelsea and Manchester City, who were heavily linked with a move for the Germany under-16 international, who joined Dortmund from Fortuna Düsseldorf in July 2016.
The 16-year-old defender’s new deal will see him remain at Dortmund until end of the 2022/23 season and, although he remains eligible for Dortmund’s under-17 squad, he has been promoted to their under-19 team for the 2020/21 campaign for The Black & Yellow.
Taking a look at all the prospects now hanging before him, Collins expressed delight with the opportunity granted him in the club and stressed that he has now misgivings after extending his stay at Dortmund, where he aims to make his professional debut in the coming years.
Collins declared: “I’ve now been playing for BVB since I was 12 and I owe the club a lot. My objective is to turn professional at BVB and to play in front of the South Stand at some point. I’m really thankful for the way that all of my previous coaches, my family and my advisors have supported me, and I’m really looking forward to the coming years at BVB.”
