Leicester City of England in-form attacker, Kelechi ‘Kels’ Iheanacho has served up a strong hint that he and his colleagues will not rest on their oars for the remaining matches of the season, as he says The Foxes need to always keep coming out strong, megasportsarena.com reports.
With the 2016 English Premier League champions back into third position on the log, ‘Seniorman’ admitted it feels good being back in the top-four, but acknowledged that the team will have to stay strong and focused to keep that spot till the final whistle of the season.
That is based mostly on sad memories of what happened last season, when Leicester gave away second placed on the table over the last three weeks of the campaign and eventually lost out of a ticket to the UFA Champions League, which he hopes they will not repeat during the ongoing run-in.
He went on to affirm that The Foxes will go all out to end their lingering pain of last season, with words of determination exuding in torrents from the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player, who scored his 14th goal in his last 14 games when he bagged the winner in Monday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Three wins from The Foxes’ final five games of the season would guarantee them a top-four finish, even if West Ham United win their remaining matches, and ‘Kels’ stressed that his side will not repeat the nightmare of dropping out of the top four on the final day of last season.
Iheanacho, who struck with 10 minutes left on Monday, after Timothy Castagne leveled for the hosts, following Wilfried Zaha’s first-half opener, told LCFC TV: “It’s a massive three points for us. It’s a great night and it was a great finish – I enjoyed that one.
“It’s just one thing – I wasn’t thinking about anything, just shift and shoot and it could go anywhere. It was great character from us. We stayed in the game. It was a sloppy goal at half-time, so in the second half, we changed a few things.
“What happened last season was in our head this season. We don’t want to make these mistakes again. That’s why we concentrated to get the win. So, these are the type of games we need to win and get the points so that it will help us at the last games.
“We’ve got five more now, so we need to concentrate on the next and see if we can get the three points. It’s another big game (against Southampton). We played them in the FA Cup, and they were really strong and aggressive. We’ve got another chance to play them on Friday.
“We need to come out strong and see if we can get the three points. They’re a good side but we need to make sure that we get the three points because we need to be strong.”
