Nigerian-born world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua may not get his ambition fulfilled to become the undisputed title holder, as fight legend, Lennox Lewis is ranking him behind America’s Deontay Wilder, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Lewis is also from Britain, as Joshua is, the former and last undisputed heavyweight champ of the world is rooting for Wilder to remain top of the class should both belt holders tango in the nearest future, as is currently being touted.
The verdict comes as Wilder heads for his rematch with another British pugilist, Tyson Fury, on Saturday night in Las Vegas, USA, ahead of which Lewis declared that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ as the best heavyweight in the world at present.
Dramatically, Lewis also went on to rate Fury more highly than Joshua, as he believes ‘AJ’ will lose to the winner of Saturday’s contest for Wilder’s WBC title, in a rematch of their controversial draw from 2018.
With the IBF, WBA and WBO belts still his to flaunt, Joshua holds the remaining heavyweight titles as a two-time champ, after beating Andy Ruiz Jr in a rematch on December 7, but Lewis believes the Nigerian-born fighter is only the third best of his division.
Lewis told Sky Sports News: “Right now the top man is Deontay because of how he looked in his last two fights. Both of these guys [Wilder and Fury] are number one and number two. Arguably, number one and number two – it can be switched either way. On Saturday they get the chance to prove to the world who is number one and who is number two.”
