Glasgow Rangers of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo is in a race against time for him to regain full fitness and be part of his club’ return to domestic football action, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is sequel to a stomach upset he suffered during international duty with Nigeria against Benin Republic last Saturday, and he subsequently missed Tuesday’s final game of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Lesotho.
It would have been a golden opportunity for Aribo to play in Lagos for the first time, as the Eagles got their first competitive match in the Centre of Excellence after 20 years’ absence, but the former Charlton Athletic of England battler had to be left out of the roster.
That was due to confirmation from the Eagles’ camp that Aribo had to sit out his first game in the qualifiers because the versatile midfielder was down with a stomach bug and his condition had not improved after a final assessment by the Eagles’ medical crew on Tuesday morning.
Aribo was eventually left out of the Eagles’ squad versus Lesotho, as the coach, Gernot Rohr deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation thus: Francis Uzoho – Zaidu Sanusi (Jamilu Collins 54), Tyronne Ebuehi, Leon Balogun, William Ekong (Captain) – Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo – Alex Iwobi (Henry Onyekuru 74), Samuel Chukwueze (Anayo Iwuala 86), Kelechi Iheanacho (Ahmed Musa 86) – Victor Osimhen (Paul Onuachu 74).
