Leicester City of England duo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi both apparently suffered bolts of fatigue from their exertions with the Super Eagles, such that they exhibited blunt edges in action with their club on Saturday.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this is the lame verdict of Leicester’s coach, Brendan Rodgers, while providing explanations for his decision to yank off Ndidi and Iheanacho in the second half of The Foxes’ loss to Manchester City.
Aside blaming fatigue for shaky form from Ndidi and Iheanacho, Rodgers went on to pile blame on the international break for weighing his side down, as the hosts could not enact a semblance of the form they displayed in their precious game versus Manchester United.
This time out, Iheanacho and Ndidi were substituted in the 72nd and 83rd minute respectively in the loss to City, after which Rodgers admitted that his players were not as sharp as they were against United in their last game before the international break.
The Foxes were beaten 2-0 by The Citizens on Saturday evening, with Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus on target in the second half, and Rodgers conceded that his players were not at the same level compared to their last outing only because many of them were in action during the international break and returned late to King Power Stadium.
He disclosed further that Ndidi, who got a yellow card as he appeared to struggle in Saturday’s game, and Iheanacho both returned to the United Kingdom on Thursday night, meaning they only got together with the squad on Friday, a day before they lined out against Man City.
Rodgers expatiated: “Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi, they are back late Thursday night from Nigeria and lots of travel, a lot of the international players playing a lot of games, and we probably weren’t as sharp as what we’ve been in our last game here against Manchester United.”
