Barnsley of England striker, Daryl Dike has expressed delight with his invitation to the senior national team of United States of America, with a strong of optimism that he would get a starting role with the squad for their upcoming international friendly matches.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, with Dike having been on great form in the English Championship since joining Barnsley from Orlando City in the USA’s Major League Soccer (MLS), he has been duly rewarded with a follow-up invitation to America’s national team.
The in-form striker, whose older brother, Bright Dike played for Nigeria in a number of similar friendlies, made his debut for USA when he featured as a substitute against Trinidad & Tobago, but he will now hope for a better impact when the Americans face Jamaica in Austria next week Thursday and then Northern Ireland in Belfast on March 28.
Dike is one of three England-based Nigerian-born players named in USA’s 26-man roster on Wednesday, with his name appearing alongside those of Leicester City goalkeeper, Chituru Odunze and highly touted Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, Owen Otasowie.
The Oklahoma-born attacker marked his call-up to The Stars and Stripes squad by scoring his first brace of goals in English football as playoff-chasing Barnsley defeated Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 on the same day he got his third national team invitation from God’s Own Country.
Should Dike get to feature in the USA’s upcoming games, it would take his international appearances to three and he could be cap-tied to the Americans if he plays a further game before he turns 21.
