Nigeria’s cadet national team, Golden Eaglets’ winger at last year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, Akinkunmi Ayobami Amoo has been welcomed specially to Hammarby IF of Sweden by the club’s joint-owner and iconic star, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, megasportsarena.com gathered.
The Ibadan-born lad got the biggest boost yet to his hopes of starting off on a roller coaster in The Land of The Midnight Sun when ‘Ibra-Dabra’ specially received him and took him aside for a photo shoot, few minutes after the youngster signed dotted lines of his first contract abroad.
Hammarby’s sports manager, Jesper Jansson said he was delighted that his Swedish Allsvenskan side were able to successfully pull off Amoo’s transfer from Sidos Academy, after he clocked 18 at the weekend, and the left-footed winger-cum-midfielder put pen on a four-year deal.
The sports manager admitted his side pulled off a major scoop in hooking Amoo, as the highly-promising lad, who is fondly called Akin by his pals, had also been heavily linked with some top clubs of England, Germany, Italy and Spain, but he chose to start overseas with a modest team.
Jansson disclosed: “We have worked with Amoo for the past two years. There has been some interest from other clubs, but during the time we have known each other we have built a strong relationship and we are very happy that Akin chose us. With Akin we get into an explosive, skillful and offensive player with a nice left foot.
“We have to remember that he has just turned 18. So, we should have patience and work together to further develop Akin’s excellence. Our coaching staff, our players and not least Mikael Hjelmberg and Wadda Tamimi have been extremely involved in making Akin feel like part of the family at Årsta.”
