Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai has reacted to the latest list of invitations to the Super Eagles’ camp with a declaration that he also deserves a call-up by the coach, Gernot Rohr, due to his current form and exposure with The Peoples’ Elephant, megasportsarena.com reports.
With his name missing for the umpteenth time, despite his presence at Enyimba having force out Rohr’s preferred back-up, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who lost his shirt in the club to Afelokhai, the out-of-favour shot-stopper insists he is good enough to hold his own and shine in the national camp.
He added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that he has what it takes to make his mark in the green-and-white jersey, considering that he has paid his due over the years, such that the former Sunshine Stars of Akure and Kano Pillars shot-stopper declared his availability for the call.
However, rather than throw up his hands in surrender or hold malice against Rohr for repeatedly leaving him out, Afelokhai hinted that he is patiently waiting for his time to come, as he calmly interjected that he will take up the chance any time it comes, and would be willing to honour the call to serve his country whenever the coach deems of fit to invite him.
Afelokhai posited: “By God’s grace, I am ready for the national team. I believe with my exposure and performances with my club that I deserve a call-up. Anytime I am called, I will welcome the opportunity with open hands. It is my country, and I love to play for Nigeria.”
