Everton of England have finally given the go-ahead fo their Nigerian-born dashing winger, Ademola Lookman to join his preferred club, RB Leipzig of Germany for £22.5m, with the move set to be effected this week, megasportsarfena.com reports.
Lookman fell in love with Leipzig after a successful spell with the club on loan the previous season, after which he sought a full contract with the German Bundesliga outfit, but The Toffees refused to let him go.
However, Lookman has now received good news at Goodison Park, as Everton have bowed to pressure and are ready to allow the England youth international move on as early as this week.
Sky Sports UK reports that the deal taking Lookman to Leipzig is worth up to £22.5m, which makes it the costliest transfer involving a player of Nigerian descent, and way ahead of the mark currently held by Ahmed Musa.
Musa’s switch to another English Premier League club, Leicester City in the summer of 2016 took him from CSKA Moscow of Russia for £16.6m, which will be almost £7m short of the fee that Everton will get from allowing Lookman return to Leipzig.
The 21-year-old winger, who played for Leipzig in the second half of the 2017/18 season, during which he hit five goals and provided four assists in 11 appearances, saw his first-team opportunities limited on his return to Everton, with only three EPL starts and 18 games off the bench.
He will now aim for a return to the spotlight at Leipzig, where he will be expected to feature in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming season.
