FC Porto of Portugal left-back, Zaidu Sanusi is celebrating what he believes was a ‘great performance’ that helped his team knock out Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus of Italy from the round of 16 in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the 23-year-old Super Eagles’ rookie was a star performer with his club in the away encounter at Allianz Stadium, where he passed the second of the biggest challenges of his career against Ronaldo in the last three weeks.
Juventus won the second-leg 3-2 on Tuesday, but Porto went through on 4-4 away goals rule, haven won the first-leg 2-1 and, although he was not on the pitch for approximately the last quarter of the game, Sanusi made one key pass and completed a team-high four dribbles.
The Italian media had been agog prior to the round of 16 fixture about the expected duel between Sanusi and former Chelsea winger, Juan Cuadrado, but the Nigerian lad, who previously played for lower division side, Santa Clara of Portugal, came out on top in the first part of the game.
Sanusi, who has started all of Porto’s matches so far in this season’s UCL and scored once against Olympique Marseille of France on matchday four, featured for 71 minutes and was solid defensively before bowing out.
Although he was not on the pitch for approximately the last quarter of the game, Sanusi made one key pass, completed a team-high four dribbles, won six duels and had 79% accuracy in the fixture that saw the 1993 and 2014 champs reach the quarter-finals.
The Gombe-born defender took to social media afterwards to celebrate the achievement, as Sanusi stated with delight: “Great performance. We are together fc porto, good job guys 🔵⚪️💙✅.”
