Spartak Moscow of Russia winger, Victor Moses was back among the array of Nigerian goals scorers on Saturday, as the former Super Eagles’ star ended a ten-game drought and helped his side romp from behind to beat Dinamo Moscow 2-1 in the Russian Premier League.
Moses, who joined Spartak on loan from Chelsea of England last October, with an option to get a full contract at the end of the season, has now recorded 13 appearances in all competitions for The Red-Whites, but he limped off injured after scoring for his side.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, before netting on Saturday against Sylvester Emeka Igbonu’s team, Moses last scored in a 3-1 road win for Spartak over Krasnodar on October 24, but he returned with a glitter on 30 minutes when he equalised for the Muscovites.
Moses’ powerful shot from inside the area beat Dinamo’s goalkeeper after Sobolev found him unmarked on the right wing, but he soon made way for Nail Umyarov, due to an injury he copped in the 40th minute.
Dramatically, the colleague that provided the assist for Moses, Sobolev also got among the scorers for the weekend in Russia, as he scored what proved to be the winning goal when he converted a spot kick 17 minutes after the interval.
In England, Femi Azeez continued his fine form for Reading’s under-23 team, as he scored in their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace in an English Premier League 2 fixture, a week after he became the latest academy product to debut for The Royals’ first team.
After he played the last few minutes against Sheffield Wednesday, Azeez did not get his senior debut on a silver platter, as it came few weeks after returning from injury and Friday’s game saw him take his tally to four goals in his last six EPL2 outings.
Another Nigerian-born striker, Victor Akinwale played the last 25 minutes for Palace, making his second appearance in the league, while Jayden Onen’s 15th minute strike was cancelled out by Michael Stickland’s own-goal just before the hour mark, but Azeez slotted home with a low shot in the 88th minute to make it 2-1 for Reading.
Also in England, Arsenal youngster, Joel Ideho opened his goals account, but it came in a 4-1 loss to Norwich City in the English U18 Premier League on Saturday, when the ex-Ajax Amsterdam of Holland lad netted on his 11th appearance in all competitions for The Gunners’ youth teams.
He now has six goals in the U18 Premier League, two in the Premier League 2 and one each in the FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy competitions, with Ideho making a world of difference on a day he was one of three Nigerian-born players that started for Arsenal against The Canaries.
Ideho was joined by defender Zach Awe and winger Daniel Oyegoke, while Republic of Ireland youth-teamer Mazeed Ogungbo came off the bench for Arsenal at half-time, but Ideho stood out among the lot when he reduced the deficit against his team nine minutes from time.
