Inter Milan of Italy winger, Victor Moses is eagerly looking forward to this weekend’s EUFA Europa League semi-finals clash with Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, as he believes it is a match his side stand a good chance of winning, megasportsarena.com reports.
Moses is exuding confidence heading into the game on the strength of his side’s 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen of Germany in the quarter-finals played at Dusseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena, as he believes being able to overcome a German club in their country means they should be able to dump Shakhtar out as well.
The last three knock-out stages of the second-tier European clubs’ competition is holding on neutral ground in a one-leg format for the first time ever, and Moses believes the Nerazzurri are well placed to emerge winners, even as they prepare to face Tuesday night’s conquerors of FC Basel of Switzerland in a shock 4-1 rout.
Although Moses started on the bench in The Nerazzurri’s victory a day earlier, he has given top marks and kudos to his teammates for holding their own when Leverkusen battled hard to put spanners in their wheels and stressed that they can hold their own again in the semi-final.
The former Super Eagles’ star, who is currently on loan from Chelsea of England, entered the fray in Düsseldorf just before the hour mark, thereby taking his total appearances in the Europa League to 13, since he debuted in the competition with The Blues seven years ago; and he is now aiming for a better impact than he had on Monday.
His entry in the 59th minute also accorded him his third appearance in this season’s contest, which he is enthusiastic will end in much the same way he ended up as champion with Chelsea in the 2012/13 edition; and thereby make history as winners of the single-venue format.
It is also the first time Inter will be playing in a European competition semi-final since the 2010 season, when they pipped Barcelona to a final berth in the UEFA Champions League and Moses, who was in Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning team, is already thinking of celebrating another victory on August 17.
The 29-year-old winger-cum-wing-back, who scored four goals in five starts during Chelsea’s cruise to the title seven years ago and played two matches for them before moving on loan to Fernebahce of Turkey last season, took to social media to reveal his thoughts ahead of Monday’s last-four fixture, and he posted: “Semi-Final #EuropaLeague #alwaysbelieve”
