A deflection off the body of Nigerian-born defender, Osaze Urhoghide added to the woes of Sheffield Wednesday, as they lost 4-1 away to Queens Park Rangers in the English Championship, megasportsarena.com reports.
Urhoghide had put up a spirited shift before the mishap and Wednesday were brought crashing back to earth following their superb win over Cardiff as they were beaten 4-1 at QPR, as Johansen’s 25-yard strike took a deflection off the defender to leave Wildsmith flat-footed, and he allowed the ball to squirm past him and into the net.
Wednesday stunned Cardiff 5-0 in their last outing but they could not build on that at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium as they remain deep in relegation trouble near the foot of the Championship.
Lyndon Dykes scored twice for QPR with Stefan Johansen and Chris Willock also on the scorers’ sheet for the hosts and, though Wednesday had equalised through Josh Windass, but Urhoghide’s team could find no other way through and to make matters worse for the Yorkshire side, fellow strugglers Birmingham City beat Mikel Obi’s Stoke City.
It leaves Wednesday seven points adrift of safety with just six matches of the season remaining and the club’s coach, Darren Moore, who is self-isolating after recently testing positive for Covid-19, faces a mammoth task to prevent the club slipping into League One.
In the CAF Champions League, Tony Edjomariegwe opened his goals’ account for Al Merreikh of Sudan, but his team suffered a 3-1 loss away to AS Vita Club of DR Congo, though the former Shooting Stars of Ibadan left winger scored in the 31st minute to initially draw his team level.
Al Merreikh finished bottom of Group A with two points, marking a downturn for the 28-year-old player, who has featured for Crown FC, Kano Pillars, Kwara United, 3SC, Nasarawa United as well as Olympic club de Safi and Maghreb Tetoun of Morocco.
