Brighton & Hove Albion of England ladies’ team striker, Ini Umotong has disclosed that she and her colleagues in Nigeria’s female national squad, Super Falcons are determined to play like real Africa Champions at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Although Nigeria’s pedigree at the global soccer showpiece for women footballers has not been strong, managing only once to go beyond the group stage and reach the quarter-finals, way back at USA ’99, Umotong believes they can create waves this year in France.
Megasportsarena.com reports that The Seagull’s women’s team attacker is part of the array of overseas-based stars Coach Thomas Dennerby will be counting on to give Nigeria a best ever Women’s World Cup outing next month, and Umotong says they are all up to the task.
Although she admits they are in tough group, with the hosts, France, one-time winners Norway and high-rising Korea Republic, Umotong is happy that the Falcons are already shaping up on personal and team levels, in order to make history at the upcoming Female Mundial.
Umotong stated: “We’re preparing well for the World Cup, because we want to do well for Nigeria.
“We are in a hard group, but the Falcons are ready to show that we are African champions.
“We are preparing well individually and collectively. Together, we will play as a team and try our best to do well in France.”
