FC.1 Union Berlin of Germany striker, Anthony Ujah has received a very lofty citation and rated high, as a key part of the newcomers’ squad that shocked Borussia Dortmund in a 3-1 spanking last weekend, with the former Super Eagles star leading his side’s attack in a frenetic manner, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Ujah failed to net during the encounter against the former champions, he played a pivotal role with decoy runs and piercing passes, which helped his Berlin-based outfit get their first ever victory in the German Bundesliga, following their promotion only last season.
While Ujah was on top of his game in the encounter at Alte Forsterei, Marius Butler dared fans of the newly-promoted side to dream after giving them a shock lead midway through the first-half but Paco Alcacer got Dortmund level shortly afterwards.
BVB fell behind again five minutes after the resumption, with Andersson skilfully going past the visitors’ Nigerian-born goalkeeper, Manuel Akanji and although Burki parried the Swede’s effort, Bulter was on hand to score on the rebound.
Bulter struck again five minutes after the resumption to restore Union’s advantage before Sebastian Andersson sealed a 3-1 win with a quarter of an hour remaining, taking the stadium into raptures by the time the assurance goal came from close, after being teed up by Becker, who had linked up well with Andrich in the build-up.
Union defended stoutly thereafter to keep chances at a premium to frustrate Dortmund on a forgettable night for last season’s runners-up, who suffered their first defeat of the season and their first in any competition since the end of April while Union were left toasting a memorable day in their 53-year history, with Ujah ranking high among the giant-slayers.
Ujah’s performance did not go unnoticed by analysts and pundits, but the biggest comments on marble came from renowned Paris-based Agence France-Presse (AFP), which went further in publishing a special preview in the widely-travelled striker’s favour.
A citation by AFP noted that Ujah played a crucial role in helping Berlin get the historic win, as he notched two assists on their goals and was full of running all through the encounter.
The citation read: “While the Nigerian may not have been on the scoresheet, he was crucial for Union as they beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 to claim a historic first Bundesliga win.
“Ujah posed constant problems for the Dortmund defence, freeing up teammates Marius Buelter and Sebastian Andersson to score.”
