All hope held by Super Eagles’ right-back, Tyronne Ebuehi to get a full contract with FC Twente of Holland this summer may not turn out to be smooth as expected, following reports that his parent club, Benfica of Portugal are not ready to reduce their asking price.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, although Ebuehi’s days at Benfica never got off talk less of make any progress, due to injuries in two separate campaigns of pre-season friendlies, the Portuguese Primera Liga club are not ready to let him for cheap.
Rather than allow compassionate grounds direct their plans for the defender, feelers out of Portugal indicate that Benfica aim to cut their loss on Ebuehi and gain as much of a profit as possible from the former ADO Den Haag of Holland lad.
This is acceding to Twente insider, Leon ten Voorde, who stressed that Benfica aim to get as much as they can from a deal for Ebuehi, as he is under contract with them until end of the 2022/23 season, though he actually joined the Portuguese club as a free agent in 2018.
Ebuehi impressed in the first half of the season but his performances have dropped in recent weeks, leading to speculation that Benfica would be forced into selling the fullback for a lower price.
The versatile full-back returned to the Netherlands last summer, joining Twente on loan for the whole season, with an option to buy included in the deal, but Voorde has now revealed why Benfica will not lower their asking price for the defender’s likely transfer this summer.
Voorde told Tubantia: “He also relapsed. No, that transfer fee will remain on it. At Benfica they really don’t watch every game.
“There they just look at the length of the contract, what did we pay for it and what does he earn? Then there is just a million transfer fee. It will and can never pay FC Twente.”
