Fulham of England central defender, Tosin Adarabioyo has come out with a down-to-earth confession that he is still keeping his hope vibrantly alive in expectation of an invitation to the senior national team of the country where he was born and currently plies his soccer trade.
Although he initially openly declared that he was ready to play for Nigeria and even posed with the Super Eagles’ jersey on the country’s Independence Day anniversary, Adarabioyo has now given the biggest hint yet that his international future lies with his country of birth.
In what could be his terse reaction to being overlooked severally by Eagles’ handler, Gernot Rohr, Adarabioyo is now looking closer at the chance of starring for England rather than Nigeria, and declared emphatically that he would give everything to star for The Thee Lions rather than the three-time African champions.
Megasportsarena.com reports further that the Manchester City academy product is currently one of the shining lights in what is turning out to be a dismal season for Fulham, who are struggling to avoid relegation from the English Premier League, with only 13 matches to end the season.
Born to Nigerian parents in Manchester, Tosin has represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels but all his appearances were in non-competitive matches, making him eligible to play for the Super Eagles straightaway.
With 119 clearances in 21 starts, no player has made more clearances than Adarabioyo this term and the 23-year-old wants to take advantage of his good form by making himself available for England, while also hoping to force himself into the plans of The Thee Lions’ coach, Gareth Southgate ahead of the 2020 European Championship.
Adarabioyo told Telegraph UK: “We know it’s the Euros this summer so hopefully if I keep on doing well, who knows, I could be looking to push myself into that squad. Obviously there are a lot of good players to choose from but if I do what I can do best there is a chance.”
