Chelsea of England defender, Fikayo Tomori has received a wake up call for more efforts and better performances with the club, as a legend of The Blues, Joe Cole believes the Nigerian-born lad still has a lot more to learn in the game, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of Tomori missing out of Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League fixture away to Valencia, Cole insinuated that the dark-skinned lad, who was born in Canada, could not get the nod because the opponents had fast attackers that could catch the English Premier League die flat-footed on the break.
Although there had also been doubts over Tomori’s fitness heading into the game at La Mastalla, Cole stressed that the youngster was actually dropped due to worries about how he would keep pace against Valencia, and Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard chose Andreas Christensen instead.
Cole told BT Sport: “Valencia are a team that will try and overload. I doubt whether they’ve got the power in their legs, the sprinters in the team. They’ve got threats but it’s not like you’re playing against a Raheem Sterling.
“They set up to have the ball and keep possession, so when you do that you’re playing in an expansive way. Maybe that’s why Frank’s gone with Christensen instead of Tomori, maybe he can just sure it up, I don’t know.”
