Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham has been slammed with a tall order by The Blues’ coach, Thomas Tuchel, who charged the Nigerian-born star to fight harder for his place in the squad, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Abraham angling for better relevance with England’s national team, the former Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa lad is eager to impress with Chelsea, but Tuchel insists he will not be sentimental in making his selections’ at Stamford Bridge.
Rather than give Abraham favoured opportunities in the London-based club’s matchday selections, Tuchel stressed that the struggling attacker will not get game time just to boost his chances of making England’s squad for the European Championship.
The 23-year-old Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions, but he has found himself marginalised since the arrival of Tuchel in January, while an ankle injury over the past month has added to the player’s woes.
Abraham’s hopes of making Gareth Southgate’s Thee Lions’ squad for the rescheduled Euros are now steadily fading but, rather than offer the striker preferential treatment heading into the continental soccer showpiece, Tuchel told his players that their personal ambitions will not sway his choices.
Tuchel retorted: “Tammy has had a rough time. He’s not had the impact we demand from him. He then got injured and lost the possibility to play for his place. We’re in the decisive part of the season, where it’s not so easy to bring injured players into shape.
“I cannot make a decision on the personal goals of players. It’s up to Tammy to do everything possible. We demand a lot of him, he demands a lot of himself.”
