Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham has revealed that he always gets a lot of inspiration from watching Bayern Munich of Germany star, Robert Lewandowski play for the German Bundesliga side and confessed that he wants to follow the Poland icon’s career progression, megasportsarena.com reports.
After netting once on an evening ‘Lewy’ struck another goal to help Bayern dump Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions League, Abraham confessed that the Polish star again showed why he is a world class striker and he expressed a strong desire to achieve as much as his idol has done.
While also declaring that he is determined to keep fighting for a place in Chelsea’s attack after the arrival of Timo Werner from Borussia Dortmund of Germany, Abraham, who finished the season as The Blues’ top scorer with 18 goals and scored in a 4-1 loss to The Bavarians in Munich on Saturday night, stressed that he wants to keep growing with each passing day.
He also admitted that Bayern were the better side on the evening of their UCL round of 16 clash, as Frank Lampard’s side lost 7-1 on aggregate to the Germans, with Lewandowski netting twice in the second leg game and reinforced his status as a very formidable centre-forward in world football, much to Abraham’s admiration.
The Nigerian-born England international was left reeling lyrical for Lewandowski, after the star took his tally to 47 club goals for the campaign with two more against Chelsea and Abraham was once again in awe for the Poland ace, even as he vowed to push himself to reach same standard.
Indeed, toiling with Chelsea on Saturday served as a wake-up charge for Abraham, who had an excellent start to the campaign but lost his place in the starting line-up to Olivier Giroud in the latter stages of the season and started just four matches after lockdown.
The £47.5m signing of Timo Werner has put more pressure on the 22-year-old lad, whose father hails from Rivers State, but Abraham says he is already facing up to the challenge he is bound to see into next season, especially with the arrival of another threat in £37m rated Moroccan thrill-maker, Hakim Ziyech.
Abraham posited: “This is Chelsea Football Club. There’s always going to be high standards and high competition. This is something I’ve been dreaming of as a kid so I have to fight for my spot, it’s never going to come easy. That’s my aim. This is the level so next season I have to raise my bar and go again.
“It didn’t come easy at the start of the season but I worked myself into the team and that’s what I have to keep doing. It’s been a phenomenal season for myself and the lads. I couldn’t ask for a better season. I have had a few niggles here and there but I have come out stronger and I have just got to build myself for next season: start well, end well.
“For me he (Lewandowski) is the best striker in the world right now and that is the level I have to get to and better. That is what I aspire to be and coming here and playing against him is a great learning curve, a great experience for me. Building to next season and onwards I have to build myself to get to those levels.”
