Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham has admitted he felt truly satisfied and relieved to be playing once again, following his involvement in The Blues’ last encounter in the English Premier League, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although he did not get to play any part in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League 1-1 draw away to Real Madrid of Spain, Abraham stated ahead of the game that he was glad with the new outlook he is gaining at Stamford Bridge.
That appears to be in contrast with a recent downturn of fortunes, which saw the ex-Swansea City, Bristol City and Aston Villa of England loanee fall from the height of a regular starter in the early days of former coach, Frank Lampard to a redundant deadweight under Thomas Tuchel.
Tuesday’s game also came with Tuchel confessing that he is disappointed with his other options in attack, which could give Abraham additional hope of a return to relevance under the German tactician.
Abraham felt no blushes being overlooked on Tuesday night, as Chelsea grabbed a potentially vital away goal in a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in their semi-final first-leg tie, with The Blues taking the lead after 13 minutes when Christian Pulisic rounded Thibaut Courtois to give Tuchel’s side the perfect start.
Madrid looked an ageing side up against a shaky Chelsea attack but managed to fire their way back into the game when Karim Benzema latched onto a couple of knockdowns in the Chelsea area to level the scores in thumping fashion, after which Tuchel publicly complained about the form of German striker, Timo Werner.
Werner squandered the best of those openings with 10 minutes gone, failing to beat Courtois from six yards out after the chance had been put on a plate for him by Pulisic, following which Tuchel said: “He missed a big one at West Ham and now he’s missed a big one here. That does not help.”
That could give additional hope of a return to the spotlight for Abraham, who featured as a glad substitute in The Blues’ 1-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, thereby marking his first appearance since February.
Although the 23-year-old gangling striker was again benched for al 90 minutes of Tuesday’s draw in Madrid, Abraham is picking positives from his return to action last weekend and the fact that his involvement was spotless when compared to that of Werner.
Abraham, who has surprisingly attracted summer transfer attention from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Aston Villa, expressed his emotions in a post on social media, which read: “It’s been tough but felt good to be back out there.”
