Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has entered the transfer radar of Manchester City of England, with The Citizens reportedly keen on pulling off a quick deal for the Super Eagles’ youngster in the coming weeks, megasportsarena.com reports.
Initial reports out of Queensland had been that Arsenal had reignited interest in Chukwueze, five years after they gave up an opportunity of signing him after he starred in helping Nigeria win the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, but The Gunners are now facing stiff competition for his signature from Man City.
A report by Spanish sports daily, AS disclosed that Man City have joined the growing list of clubs that are interested in signing Chukwueze in the summer transfer window, ahead of which the Etihad Stadium outfit have been closely monitoring the left-footed lad’s development since he broke into Villarreal’s first team last season.
However, interest from Pep Guardiola’s side puts them in direct contest with Arsenal as well as two other clubs in the English Premier League, as Chelsea and Liverpool also keeping tabs on the fair-skinned Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia product.
This is despite additional reports revealing that Chukwueze would cost a mammoth €100m if his release clause is to be applied, as he has renewed his contract twice since transferring to The Yellow Submarine in 2016, and his current deal runs until June 30, 2023.
It is now left to be seen if City will be able to edge aside their EPL rivals in getting the signature of Chukwueze, who has 68 games under his boots with Villarreal, scoring 12 goals and setting up seven others in the process, thereby also drawing attention from his club’s LaLiga rivals, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
