Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze has earned comforting words from two gurus at his Spanish LaLiga club, as one of his teammates, former Arsenal of England midfielder, Santi Cazorla is throwing his weight behind the youngster to continue shining with the team, while the club’s director of football, Fernando Roig believes the lad still has a lot more to offer, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with critical comments that trailed Chukwueze’s performances in The Yellow Submarine’s last two LaLiga matches, in which he was made to play as a make-shift striker, Roig declared that he still has a lot of confidence in the lad’s ability and Cazorla restated awe for the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medalist.
Cazorla added that Chukwueze is fast becoming a household name at Villarreal and very suitable transfer candidate for many English Premier League clubs; as some of them have sounded him out already about the possibility of them signing the left-footed product of Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia.
He added that Chukwueze’s immense talent, deft touches, speed and work rate always stand him out and have helped Villarreal keep hold of a UEFA Europa League spot in the Spanish LaLiga this season; such that Spanish icon believes it is just a matter of time before the Super Eagles’ youngster makes a move to England once he continues dazzling every season.
Cazorla told Independent: “They ask me about (Chukwueze) and think that they can make the step to the Premier League soon. It’s good that big clubs are interested in the young players at Villarreal but, for the moment, I’m asking them to stay here.”
Roig also described Chukwueze as one of Europe’s most exciting talents and submitted: “Samu was a world champion, it’s not like we took him from under a stone. He’s a fantastic player and we are very happy for him to develop here.
“He started with the U19s, was there for only two weeks, the same thing happened with the U21s and he finished the season in the U23s. Then, in the summer, he came on the first-team tour. Samu is a fantastic player, of course, whatever happens, happens. For young players, we have competitive salaries. Maybe not at the top level.”
