Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr is apparently keeping officials at Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the names of players he will invite for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March, megasportsarena.com reports.
With the games against Benin Republic and Lesotho now looming large, a top shot at the NFF hinted that technical buffs at Sunday Dankaro Football House are still in the dark over the identities of players that would be invited for both games.
The official went on to reveal that, though all expectations are high that Rohr will release the list this week, the NFF cannot pinpoint which of the stars would eventually be called-up to do battle for the three-time African Champions.
The Eagles will first battle away to The Squirrels in Port Novo on March 25 before hosting The Crocodiles in their final qualifier for Cameroon 2022 on March 30 at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, ahead of which the official stressed that everyone at the soccer governing can only wait and hope that the best players are invited by Rohr.
Nigeria top Group L on eight points from four games, while Benin Republic are second on seven points, such that their clash may decide the fate of both nations as they hope to qualify for the tournament in Cameroon, which the NFF egg head admitted requires a crack squad to achieve.
The NFF mogul expatiated: “We’re still expecting the list of players from Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr. Nigeria will face Benin on March 25 before confronting Lesotho on March 30 in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“We don’t want to leave any stone unturned because the team must qualify for the tournament. It will be a collective effort because we don’t want to give Nigerians any excuses.
“We must invite our best players for the two games and ensure that the players are well motivated to also give out their best.”
