One of the coaches in Nigeria’s technical crew that won bronze with the under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles at the Rio 2016 Games, Nnamdi Onuigbo has cancelled his scheduled trip to South Africa for a coaching course, on account of recent violent attacks on foreigners in The Rainbow Nation, with many Nigerians already victims of the widespread assaults, megasportsarena.com gathered.
With repeated cases of xenophobia reaching an all-time high in Nelson Mandela’s country, Onuigbo, who is rated as a distinguished coach with a fine pedigree in Nigeria’s youth football circles, said, although the course would have further boosted his professional status, he does not feel morally inclined towards going ahead with his trip to South Africa.
Rather than make the trip this week, Onuigbo, who now runs IB Sports Dream Academy has decided not to further his coaching education in South Africa as he had planned to do.
Onuigbo was a part of the Nigeria ‘Dream Team’ that won bronze at the Rio Olympics in Brazil in 2016.
“I’m cancelling the coaching course I was to embark on in South Africa. Watching blacks killing blacks is appalling. We are our own biggest problem in Africa,” Onuigbo told SCORENigeria.
