SSC Napoli of Ital striker, Victor Osimhen is back a his Italian Serie A club’s base in Naples, after receiving treatment for two days at the base of their last opponents, Atalanta, megasportsaena.com reports.
The recovery process, though, mans Osimhen will miss this Thursday’s reverse fixture in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 against Granada of Spain and will continue receiving checks on a head injury that caused him to lose consciousness towards the end of Sundays match.
Test results after his slump against Atalanta have been encouraging, though, as a CT Scan and other diagnostic checks did not reveal any complications, following which the youngster flew back to Naples from Bergamo with the team doctor.
However, while Osimhen will head into further tests as a precautionary measure, his pals at Napoli will aim to overturn a 2-0 deficit they suffered last week away to Granada and get a better result at home in order to reach the Europa League round of 16.
It is another major career setback for the promising youngster, having injured his shoulder last November on international duty and was sidelined for over three months, following which he then contacted COVID-19 at a ‘reckless’ birthday party in Lagos.
In the past week, fresh controversy erupted round him when his brother alleged that the player was being played out of relevance by his own teammates, but the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and highest goals scorer could be available for selection for the Serie A home game against Benevento this weekend.
An updated report out of The Land of The Azzuri, however, revealed that Osimhen suffered a total blackout and he could not remember that he hit the back of his head on the pitch when he collided with an Atalanta player Sunday.
Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport added: “The 22-year-old striker could not remember a thing from the incident. He spent a night in hospital in Bergamo with Napoli doctor by his side.
“Osimhen will undergo more medical tests today in Naples to ascertain the extent of the head injury. He has already been ruled out of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League Round of 32 second leg match against Granada. Granada won the first leg in Spain 2-0.”
