Barcelona Femeni of Spain attacker, Asisat Oshoala is most likely to miss he remaining part of this season, after going in for surgery on a troublesome injury, which she copped on international duty with Nigeria at the recent Turkish Women’s Cup.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, despite being in top form and raining goals one by the dozen for The Catalans’ female squad, the Nigerian women’s national team, Super Falcons’ captain had to be rushed into the surgeon’s theatre at the end of last week.
Subsequently, Barca have officially disclosed that the former FC Robo Queens of Lagos, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, Arsenal and Liverpool Ladies of England as well as ex-Dalian Quanjian of China star will be out for at least eight weeks.
The 26-year-old four-time African female player of the year, who has already scored 15 goals in 20 games, will now miss both legs of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals and remaining part of Spain’s domestic season, which ends on June 26.
Her team are top of the table, 12 points clear of closest rivals Levante, with nine matches still to be played, but Oshoala will not be part of the thrills when they celebrate another triumph in The Land of The Armada.
‘Super Zee’ earlier missed the Santa Teresa triumph after suffering a relapse of the nagging foot injury in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Fortuna Hjorring of Denmark last month.
However, she was cleared to take part in the second leg against Fortuna and last week versus Manchester City of England in the Champions League and has aggravated the injury recently after featuring in five successive games, scoring four times.
Despite being named in the squad for a 7-1 bashing of Levante, the Super Falcons star could not earn a minute of action for Llius Cortes’ side, after the recurring injury in her right foot, hence the surgery.
The Spanish Primera Iberdrola side confirmed that surgery on Oshoala’s right foot was led by Dr. Josep Dalmau at the club’s medical services facility and everything went well.
Barca disclosed in a statement: “Asisat Oshoala has undergone surgery on her right foot this Tuesday. The player had been experiencing discomfort for a few weeks and had already been made to miss a game, such as the one at the Santa Teresa field.
“The intervention was carried out by Dr. Dalmau, under the supervision of the FC Barcelona Medical Services. The evolution of the player will mark her return to the pitch.”
