CD Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo has parried any form of misgivings over his recent bench role with the Super Eagles, as he says the squad has been cemented in recent time by a high level of cordial team spirit among all the players, megasportsarena.com reports.
Omeruo is yet to play for the Eagles since the Africa Cup of Nations third place victory against Tunisia, with injuries ruling him out of the team’s international friendlies against Ukraine and Brazil, while Semi Ajayi’s burst of new form kept the former Chelsea stopper out versus Benin Republic and Lesotho, but he says thinking about the team comes first for him.
The dark-skinned central defender, who has also earlier starred for Sunshine Stars of Akure and Standard Liege of Belgium, then played on loan from Chelsea at ADO Den Haag of Holland, Middlesbrough of England as well as Kasimpasa and Kanyanspor of Turkey, added that the deep level of togetherness in the Eagles accounted for their recent victories.
He acknowledged that he is happy to get back to his base after joining the national team’s camp for the past two matches, and recounted how togetherness among the players enlivened the atmosphere off the pitch, while also accounting for their come from behind victories against The Squirrels in Uyo and The Crocodiles away in Maseru.
He took to social media to reveal his enthusiasm, with a photograph of himself sited alongside Leganes pal, Chidozie Awaziem, to highlight the fun and jocular moments the players enjoy while in the Eagles’ camp, and noted that it accounted for their recent successful outings.
Omeruo stated: “Good to be back home after two successful outing with the boys.. up super eagles.. great team spirit in the team… #supereagles #AWIII CC @chidozie_collins_awaziem.”
