The kick-off for action in the second-tier division of domestic football in the country, Nigerian National League (NNL) has been shifted by 21 days, to now commence on the 22nd of this month, megasportsarena.com reports.
Making this known in a media statement, NNL spokesman, Amar Ignis disclosed that the initial commencement of action in the championship fixed for November 1st had to be moved due to strategic reasons.
The ace broadcaster, commentator, master of ceremonies and actor expatiated that the decision to shift the commencement date for the lower division’s new campaign was reached after due consultation with all relevant stakeholders, who he said were of a consensus that they needed to put better logistics and conducive conditions in place before setting the term in motion.
He went on to explain that the new date will accord all competing clubs enough time to finalise their registration formalities and other matters needed to ensure they have a smooth, exciting and seamless season.
Ignis added in his statement on social media: “The Management of the Nigeria National League (NNL) has extended the commencement of the 2019/2020 season by 21 days. The league will no longer kick off Friday 1st of November 2019. This decision was taken after due consultation with stakeholders to enable certain logistics to be ready for the kick off. The new season is now expected to start Friday 22nd November,2019.”
