Glasgow Ranger s of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo has been cleared to star for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s international friendly against Brazil, as his club coach, Steven Gerrard says the rookie has sufficiently recovered from a recent cut in the head, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Aribo is yet to resume playing for The Gers, after suffering the injury two weeks ago, Gerrard reasoned that the former Charlton Athletic of England battler should be good enough to star for Nigeria on Sunday, considering that the gash in his head has dried up.
The revelation comes few days after Aribo returned to Rangers training sporting a Peter Cech-style protective skull cap following the brutal head knock he suffered against Livingston, when he needed 20 stitches to his head after being flattened by Ricki Lamie in a Betfred Cup quarter final.
The Gers’ summer signing was seen bleeding heavily before being taken off after half an hour at Livi’s home ground in West Lothian, after which he sat out his Glasgow-based side’s thrashing of Aberdeen, last Sunday’s Scottish Premiership fixture with Hamilton and the UEFA Europa League clash with Young Boys of Switzerland.
However, the 22-year-old rookie, who scored on his Nigeria debut against Uktraine last month, was spotted training with his team mates at Auchenhowie on Monday morning, with his healing injured forehead covered by a protective head gear and bandaging underneath.
The setting has now been cleared for Aribo to get some minutes against The Samba Boys, should Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr wish so, after Gerrard hinted at the lad’s availability for the fixture against Brazil, as the gaffer confirmed his ward will make the trip to Singapore this week.
This is in contrast with initial fears that the central midfielder would not be available, after he got a scary head injury in a Scottish League Cup clash against Livingston on September 25, but Gerrard affirmed that Aribo has made swift recovery and took his place on Rangers’ bench in last Sunday’s 5-0 demolition of Hamilton Accies.
Gerrard told Glasgow Evening Times: ”Joe was very close to being 100% so that is a positive for us. I would have Joe if needed but I wanted to give him his scar as much time as possible to heal, he will go away on international duty and probably be involved with Nigeria.”
